Summer Enrichment Program

The Chapel Hill-Chauncy Hall School JumpStart Program, for students entering the 8th or 9th grade, allows students to explore the academic and social changes that occur when taking the leap from middle school to high school. The program specifically targets two academic areas while weaving social skills instruction throughout both programs.

Our program incorporates the discovery and exploration of the history and architecture of areas near Waltham into an academic skills enrichment program. Students will improve their academic skills utilizing the background knowledge gained from daily field trips and state of the art technology. Along the way students will have opportunities to fine-tune the social skills needed to navigate the nuances of high school.

Jump start your academic success!
Build reading comprehension strategies in history and science.
Build a mathematical “tool box” of strategies.
Participate in team building exercises.
Enhance social skills using the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens.
Apply background knowledge gained from daily field trips to create robust, detailed writing or to solve mathematical problems.

Reading and Writing in the Content Areas: strengthens students' reading comprehension and writing abilities, particularly for content area reading, such as social studies and science. Students will break down non-fiction reading into key components. Once the reading has been processed the students will work on strategies to reconstruct the information into informative essays.

Pre-Algebra and Algebra: strengthens students' numerical awareness and abstract thinking in relation to applying mathematical concepts to various problems. Students will connect mathematical concepts to real world examples.
