Valedictorian Taylor Laroche and Salutatorian Blair Zhu were honored and addressed their classmates. The commencement address was delivered by Nigerian Senator Jim Nwobodo,
Parent ’15.
In his address, Senator Nwobodo talked about his humbling beginnings, his introduction to politics through sports and the impact that meeting with President John F. Kennedy had on him in 1963. To conclude his inspirational speech, Senator Nwobodo left the new graduates with his advice on becoming leaders:
“Leaders emerge during times of crisis and despair and leaders emerge when they provide shoulders for others to cry on. When you find success, give back, always remember your alma mater, engrave your names in gold and leave lasting legacies.”
Head of School Dr. Lance Conrad closed the ceremony by urging students to use what they’ve learned at Chapel Hill-Chauncy Hall School to better the world.
“Our role as your faculty has been to push you to be alert, eager, empathic and intellectually capable young men and women. As you leave campus later this afternoon, it is our hope that you will feel empowered to fight for social justice and equity in the world, for the common good.”
