What can you expect from the SAS department?

Learning Style Inventory: Each student at CH-CH completes a “learning style inventory” in order to help the students and their teachers unlock appropriate learning strategies.

Individual Learning Style Profiles: SAS develops in-depth Individual Learning Style Profiles for all students at CH-CH. These documents are shared with faculty and promote creative lessons that engage students’ strengths.

Executive function development: Executive function development work at CH-CH includes work on planning, prioritizing, organizing, cognitive shifting, and self-monitoring skills that allow intellectually capable adolescents to mature into effective independent learners.

No Hiding in the “Back Row”

SAS has ongoing communication with grade level teams, so no student is left behind.

Layers of Support: SAS coordinates its work with the work classroom teachers are doing, providing layers of support for students.

Monitoring their Progress: A student’s classroom progress is monitored by the SAS, and the student’s work in the SAS is adjusted accordingly.

Real Time Practice: SAS overlays executive functioning skill development on top of the core curriculum, so that students have real-time practice with real skills.

Evolution and Progress: SAS program evolves to meet the skills development of students as they progress from grade to grade.

#5 Taste for Success

"We give the students a lot of opportunities in a lot of different areas. Sometimes when they taste success, they get hungry for it, and it spills over into other areas."

Bill Gostylo, Science Teacher (Began Teaching at CH-CH in 1980)

Our multiple intelligences approach to teaching and learning both values and addresses the different ways students learn. Our curriculum challenges and engages students, with support seamlessly integrated into the classes and culture of the School. All our students are accepted into college or university with an emphasis on finding the best fit for their ambitions and interests. Diversity thrives in a social climate of acceptance. A dynamic mix of day and boarding students energizes our campus and creates opportunities for students to engage with each other in the arts, athletics, campus activities and community service. Our alumni/ae describe their experience at CH-CH as truly transformational. Our private, independent school is located ten miles from Boston.
