Scott Bloom & Conor Maguire Named EIL Wrestling Coaches of the Year
Coaches Scott Bloom and Conor Maguire have been named the 2018 Eastern Independent League Coaches of the Year, and it’s easy to see why. The moment you meet them, their enthusiasm for the sport of wrestling is contagious. Their practices are challenging, yet fun, with a focus on fundamentals. Every day is about pushing yourself and others around you to work hard. These coaches, year after year, have taken a group of individuals and transformed them into a team - a team that takes pride in every member. All Seniors receive the title of Captain and mentorship of novice athletes is a key component to their building of a successful program.
Through honoring hard work and attitude, Coaches Bloom and Maguire have built a program to be reckoned with. The Charger wrestling team has been steadily improving under their leadership, moving their record from 1-12 in 2012 to 7-6 in 2015, and remaining above .500 for the last four years. Together, they have coached 12 E.I.L. Champion wrestlers, and have sent 4 athletes to compete at the highest high school level possible, the National Wrestling Tournament - a first in school history in 2015, only to be repeated again in 2017.
What makes this coaching duo so remarkable is their ability to motivate their athletes and create a team in the truest sense. In the end, the athletes want to wrestle for them because they know that Coaches Bloom and Maguire believe in their potential as athletes, as a team, but also as individuals off the mat.
