The Chargers wrestling team wrapped up an impressive season with two wrestlers qualifying to compete at the National Prep Wrestling Championship at Lehigh University.

Nicolo Triolo ‘15, Nick Klinoff ‘17 and Will Kramer (PG) each won the EIL (Eastern Independent League) championship, allowing them to represent CH-CH in the New England Tournament. Nicolo earned 5th place and Nick finished 7th at the New England Wrestling Tournament qualifying each for Nationals. On Friday, February 27th they will compete among the top 32 wrestlers in their weight class from across the country.

This season, Triolo’s hard work has paid off as this was the captain’s first trip to the New England tournament. Triolo wrestles in the 285 lbs. weight class. This was Klinoff’s second trip to the New England tournament; he competes in the 195 lbs. weight class.

“Coaching these guys all season was a blast. When trying to put together a successful dual meet team, it is essential to have certain guys who you can rely on to secure pins. It takes a lot of pressure off of the younger wrestlers, but also encourages the younger guys to fight hard. Will, Nick, and Nicolo provided that anchor for the team this year,” said assistant coach Scott Bloom.

The team also had a noteworthy showing at the EIL tournament with third place finishes from Nelson A. ‘16, Ethan S. ‘18, and Adam K. ’18 and fourth place finishes from Joaquin C.N. ‘16, Scott C. ’18, and Sam N-P. ‘16.

When asked about the season, coach Conor Maguire said, “They learned a lot and worked hard to improve. Each of these guys is better now than at the start of the season. I am super proud of the improvement the team made this year. Really impressive.”

With such a young and driven team, the Chargers are looking to work hard in the off-season and come back even stronger next year.
