What is the key to your success as a teacher?
I have learned that having patience and being able to adapt is key to working with both students and adults. I love seeing how my students can get so excited about learning something new and something they didn’t originally think they had any talent for. At the end of the year when they can talk about their work, it gives me goosebumps when they really know what they are talking about. They get hooked and it’s exciting to see them get passionate about their work and want to pursue it in their future.

What kind of visual or performance work do you do outside of your role at CH-CH?
I’ve loved to sing since I was young, and I am currently performing with a group called Boston Jazz Voices, an “a cappella” jazz singing group of 18 singers. I’ve been with them for over 10 years now. We’ve performed at many libraries and colleges, and even performed the National Anthem at Fenway Park!

How does your 30-year career at CH-CH impact your teaching?
I have a historical perspective of both the school and the subject I teach. Since photography has changed so much in the last 30 years, I hold the role of both teacher and student at the same time.
