Kamilah Washington

Year Graduated: 2010
College Attended: U-Mass Boston, majoring in Criminal Justice with a minor in Spanish.

What did you gain from your CH-CH experience? CH-CH prepared me for college not only academically but socially as well.  Joining different types of clubs at CH-CH made it easy to meet new people and make friends.  I believe that being at CH-CH made me a stronger leader.
How was the teaching staff at CH-CH? What I liked most about being a CH-CH student was being able to have a close relationship with my teachers. It was easy to get along with all of them and I always felt comfortable asking them for extra help when I needed it.

Do you have an example of a teacher helping guide you?  My favorite teacher would have to be Molly Popkin. She was my Spanish teacher, my soccer coach, my lacrosse coach and my basketball coach. Having a teacher that is also your coach makes it much easier to get along with them during the season. She knew me very well and that helped both in class and on the field and court.

What is a piece of advice you’d like to give to current CH-CH students?  A skill that I gained from being at Chapel Hill would be asking for help early in the year rather than waiting until the last minute before and exam. Extra Help sessions actually helped me during my years at Chapel Hill and I would never take them for granted. I hope that helps!
