Elizabeth Leary, ‘14

“Everything is important at CH-CH.” This was the conclusion Elizabeth Leary ‘14 reached when she toured campus as an eighth grader. While some schools she visited focused on athletics and others were particularly strong in the arts, Elizabeth found the balance she was seeking at CH-CH.
Currently a junior at the Tufts University– affiliated School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Elizabeth recalls visual arts teacher Cindy Ludlam as “probably the greatest teacher I’ve ever had”, she also remembers being urged to “do something that makes you feel uncomfortable” by visual and performing arts teacher Maeve Doolan. “The teachers at CH-CH were extremely open. I was able to design my own curriculum and learned to set deadlines for completing projects; there was a great balance in creating my AP portfolio.” Although Elizabeth knew early on that she wanted to attend art school, her interests extend to the stage as well. A competitive ballroom dancer, Elizabeth performed in the CH-CH production of Beauty and the Beast; she also helped choreograph that play as well as CH-CH’s recent staging of The Sound of Music. “I know that I’ll dance forever,” she said, adding that she would also like to explore costume design for film, continue to experiment in metal sculpture, and participate in performance art. “CH-CH brought out everything in me!”
