Layla Maniscalco Named 2022 IGC Volleyball MVP

Congratulations to Layla Maniscalco (‘23) on being named the IGC Volleyball Most Valuable Player for the second consecutive year. As a returning captain, Maniscalco continued to display her excellence in all technical facets of the game. As an outside hitter, she has the ability to deliver strong plays from anywhere on the court and can attack equally effectively from the front or back row. She excels in digging, passing, and serving. She is able to read opponents and make necessary adjustments to her play and her anticipation and quickness allow her to keep plays alive.

Maniscalco’s 2022 stats were remarkable. She had a.49% hitting percentage, ace percentage of 52.97%, a service receive rate of 89.62%, and a nearly flawless digging percentage of 92.92%. Maniscalco is a true complete player and her game composure set the tone for the season. During one conference game, with the Chargers trailing 15-17, Maniscalco turned the tide with a resounding cross court kill, then proceeded to serve\win the next 9 points via her serve including 7 aces to close out a 25-17 victor for the Chargers.

“She brings tremendous intangibles to each game and practice; confidence that is contagious to her teammates, positive and calm energy with a “one point at a time” mentality. Layla recognizes the importance of mistakes and uses them as motivation for herself and her teammates to learn and grow from.” - Coach Emma Maniscalco (‘19)

Congratulations Layla, and GO CHARGERS!
