Another avenue of support for students are our daily office hours. All teachers are available in their classrooms or office during this period and students are encouraged (and at times, required) to see their instructors with any questions or difficulties they might be encountering. Students entering the 9th grade are required to attend office hours blocks daily; as students demonstrate progress in their academics they are given the opportunity to choose which teachers to see during this time. For our upperclassmen, office hours are designed to mimic what they will find at the college and university level, which allows students to develop the time management and self-advocacy skills they will need when moving on to the next stage in their education.
Grade Level Teams
Each grade level, 9-12, has a core group of faculty who form the grade level team. Each student’s advisor is a member of this team which meets weekly to discuss academic concerns, social programming, and class issues. This type of frequent, close communication between and among the faculty about students ensures that any difficulties are addressed in a timely manner and students have the opportunity to be supported throughout the learning process.
