Teacher Spotlight: Scott Bloom

As a math teacher, coach and dorm parent, Scott Bloom has been a positive force on the CH-CH campus for years. Whether it’s on the field or in the classroom, Mr. Bloom has seen the potential for students to become champions, including coaching two CH-CH wrestlers all the way to the National Tournament and leading the softball team to their first ever championship.

Why do you coach?
I love coaching, and it’s why I got into teaching in the first place. I enjoy building the relationships that go beyond the classroom and onto the playing field. I like to see the positive impact that one has on the other.

Tell us a little about your experience as an athlete?
I played three sports very seriously through high school, and I was playing soccer and baseball from the time I was about 6 years old up through varsity in high school. I picked up wrestling in high school and it became the sport I took the most seriously.

In 2015 the softball team won the Co-League Champions for the IGC League. What does that mean to you as a coach?
It was an amazing experience, and I am incredibly proud of the girls.  Not only did they work hard all season to develop their skills, but they were also unbelievably tough; each game was tight and everyone had a moment during the season where they stepped up to contribute.  These girls deserved to raise a banner, and I cannot wait to see them continue that tradition.

This is your third year as a wrestling coach at CH-CH. Why have you been successful as a coach?
I have a lot of experience with wrestling at this level, both as an athlete and a coach.  I try to give students techniques that I think will benefit that individual athlete at this level. Conor Maguire (coach) and I also have found success because of the relationships we have with our students, especially the younger ones. Conor and I were both on the sophomore team and we had this opportunity to work with a lot of young guys and build relationships in the classroom that got them to come out and try wrestling.
