Boys’ Varsity Soccer Makes MBIL Tournament

It has been a thrilling season for the CH-CH Boys’ Varsity Soccer team, which concluded with the Chargers becoming the 6th seed in the Massachusetts Bay Independent League Tournament. This is the second consecutive appearance in the MBIL playoffs for CH-CH. This year, the Chargers took on Newman Prep in the first round of tournament play. The teams were tied at 2 by the end of regulation and headed into an exciting overtime period. At the end of overtime, the game remained 2-2 and the teams headed into penalty kicks for a tie-breaker. Newman went on to win the game in penalty kicks.

The Chargers’ season was marked with many big match-ups, and players that found their strength on the field, both individually and as a team.

There were several milestones throughout the season, but Head Coach Scott Bloom notes the team truly came together in their win against Cambridge School of Weston:

“After a tie, a win, and a gutsy loss, the Chargers had their most impressive game of the season when they dominated Cambridge School of Weston. Ben Kline ‘16 stepped in as the goalie and had a stellar performance, controlling the box and making some fantastic saves. Nelson Andrade ‘16 had two beautiful goals and Ryan Donovan ‘17 had a third off a long ball from Deron Alford ‘15. While Cambridge managed to get one goal back at the end of the game, it was too little too late, and the Chargers hot streak continues.”

Congratulations to the Boys’ Varsity Soccer team on a great season, and to Deron Alford ‘15 for being named a MBIL Boys' Soccer All-League Player.
