Congratulations to CH-CH Drama Students!

On October 29 & 30, the lights came up on the latest theatrical production at Chapel Hill-Chauncy Hall School.  The Man Who Came to Dinner by George S. Kaufman & Moss Hart is a classic comedy about the antics of a 1940s radio host who slips on ice leaving a dinner party, only to become his hosts’ worst nightmare as he takes up residence in their home.  He receives outlandish guests and an array of random visitors, all who add to the hilarity of this play.  Of course, the true problem comes when his attempt to foil his secretary’s engagement, only to find himself in too deep.

The cast of The Man Who Came to Dinner was led by Richie Frank (’10) as Sheridan Whiteside, the rude and demanding radio celebrity, and Laura Cunningham as Maggie Cutler, his caring, yet sarcastic secretary.  Other members of the cast were the following: Jen Kates, Sarah Samel, Will Thompson, Care Norton, Conor Devlin, Liza Kobzik, Maya Vasquez, Laura Milton, Brooke Travinsky, Jeff Springwater, Hieu Nguyen, India Dumont, Matt Sager, Rebecca Singer, Elise Soper, Arno Bohrer-Kiefer, Elizabeth Baxter, and Paul May.  The technical crew, led by Stage Manager Molly Goodell, included Nick Stein, Justin Gerard, Amanda O’Grady, Nick Creedy-Powers, and Ben Eggert.

“A comedy like this has to stay busy, has to move fast.  It took a tremendous amount of work for us to get this ball moving, but when we did, it turned out to be fantastic.  Mr. Martin & I are very proud,” said the play’s Director, Christina Kappel.  A student audience member commented after Thursday’s performance, “This is the best live performance I have ever seen.”

The CH-CH theater season will continue in February with its production of Seussical ™ by Lynn Ahrens & Stephen Flaherty.
