CH-CH Dives into Pool Construction

Chapel Hill - Chauncy Hall School is excited to announce that we have started construction on our new, heated, twin pool complex. The new pools are being built on the sites of the former pool and upper parking lot behind the Barn. After 52 years, we say “good bye” to the Joseph H. Caughey Pool and welcome a new, larger facility.

The new complex will allow us to expand our summer camp and emerging residential programs, while also providing programming opportunities for our regular year student life, residential life and athletic/afternoon activity programming. It is hoped that CH-CH students will be able to utilize the pool during the fall and spring seasons.

The facility will feature a six-lane standard 25m pool on the lower level and a shallower learners’ pool on the upper pool deck. The smaller pool is at its deepest three feet and features a zero-entry ramp. The lap pool ranges from three to nine feet deep and is regulation size for high school competition. The lap pool will hold 100 swimmers and small pool will hold 94 swimmers. A two-story pool house will divide the two pools with separate changing rooms, bathrooms and shower facilities. There will also be a pool directors’/lifeguards’ office perched on the second floor overlooking both pools.

This project follows our other transformative facility projects: The new CH-CH Commons, the Beaver Gymnasium renovation in 2010, and our new greenhouse in 2009. All are indicators that CH-CH continues to strategically and actively pursue property improvements as we create and maintain teaching, learning and living environments that allow for us to support and challenge students in a manner and setting that makes sense to them.
