Science

  • Ecology, Botany, and Classification

The Middle School Science curriculum has a two-year content progression. Year 1 is Systems & Cycles (2024-25) and Year 2 is Ecology, Botany, & Classification (2025-26).

The second year of the curriculum includes the study of ecology, botany, and classification. Students act as scientists by making observations, classifying objects, backing up their claims with evidence and reasoning, and applying their knowledge to help others. In the fall, students explore how to classify, with an exploration of invasive species and explore the World’s geologic time. In the winter, they study the impact of plastics and learn about volcanoes. And in the spring, students venture into the ponds and streams on campus to analyze water quality and learn about symbiosis.
