What is your role at CH-CH?
I am the history department chair and head houseparent of Worcester Hall. I also coach varsity boys lacrosse and have coached soccer, basketball, and volleyball.

How do you get to know your students best?
I love talking with them about their interests, shows or activities, and telling terrible dad jokes. Getting to know my students and building relationships with them helps them do their best work, but it also makes CHCH a place that feels like home and where they can grow and thrive.

What activities do you enjoy outside of CH-CH?
I love to play and coach lacrosse, read books, play with our dog, and most recently to watch my daughter learn to interact with the world around her. It’s my favorite activity.

What is your role at CH-CH?
As the Director of 9th and 10th Grade Programs, I think about the academic and social-emotional experience for our 9th and 10th grade students. This includes considering things like curriculum, co-curricular activities, day to day life, and opportunities to gather and connect. I love working with teenagers. Building relationships is central to my identity as an educator; strong relationships allow for growth and authentic exploration. There is joy in spaces with young people. Being part of a school community is about the full experience - classes, clubs, advisory, after school programs, and so much more- and my role allows me to be part of so many aspects of the school. I am also very lucky to be part of the history department. I love talking with students about the ways in which the past impacts our world right now and can inform choices we make in the future.

What makes the CH-CH community unique?
Our community is about thriving - and about embracing the myriad ways in which that can occur. By truly knowing our students as dynamic people with varied interests, identities, strengths, and challenges, we are able to develop learning spaces to encourage growth and success as well as leverage each person's gifts to build community. This community values kindness, authenticity, and engagement. And fun. Fun matters; smiles and laughter invigorate spaces and reflect that there is joy to be found in working together and working hard. Individualized approaches in classrooms, athletics, and arts allow students to feel connected and supported while also creating spaces where students can open themselves up to new challenges.

What activities do you enjoy outside of CH-CH?
I have always been an "indoor" person. That is not to say that I don't enjoy a walk on a glorious fall day (keep it at or under 75 degrees, please!) or relaxing on a screened porch, but overall, you're more likely to find me reading, sewing, knitting, and baking. I love the process of creating new things from raw materials be they yarn and fabric or flour and yeast. As we get back into the swing of traveling, I am excited to plan some new family trips near and far.

What is your role at CH-CH?
I teach United States History and World Civilization II, help facilitate the LGBTQ+ Affinity group, assist with the JV Girls Basketball team, and serve as the head coach of the Girls Tennis team. I also live on campus and serve as a dorm parent in Worcester Hall.

What about our students inspires you?
The open-mindedness and vulnerability of the students at CH-CH inspires me. The students here come with many different lived experiences and are willing to share these in class. Often, a class discussion about a historical event will lead to a talk on how our world is today.

What led to your career at CH-CH?
I became a teacher because of the impact that a small number of teachers had on my life, especially in high school. I switched from a public school to a private boarding school going into my sophomore year of high school. The teachers at my school took the time to get to know me and made learning interesting. My goal is to be there for my students just like my teachers were there for me.
