Campus and Spaces
The Middle School home will be in the Learning Commons, the space which originally housed the Chapel Hill School when it began back in the late 19th century. Following a recent renovation, the space houses four classrooms and the large, flexible Learning Commons. Middle School students and faculty will have dedicated space for the many endeavors they will engage in, from group projects to presentations to quiet study time.
Middle School students and faculty will also have access to many other wonderful teaching & learning spaces on CH-CH’s 42-acre campus, both indoors and outdoors. Science classes will take advantage of the School’s MakerSpace, the Gostylo Greenhouse, and other outdoor spaces. When a project calls for artwork, a theatrical presentation, or musical performance, Middle School students will make use of the Art Studios and Mankiw Theatre in the new state-of-the-art Visual & Performing Arts Center.
Community and Opportunities
Middle and Upper School students will join together in several areas of community life, including Assemblies, Winter Carnival, and Community Service activities (both during the academic week and on weekends). CH-CH has a robust co-curricular program with a wide range of opportunities and all students participate in an afternoon sport or activity each season. Middle School students may play sports on an Upper School team, open to both new and seasoned athletes, audition for the Winter Musical where no one is cut from the cast or crew, or join other activity offerings. There will also be activities reserved exclusively for Middle School students.
