Chargers Win 2018 IGC Softball Championship

For the third time in four years, the Softball team won the 2018 Independent Girls Conference Softball Championship. The team defeated Covenant Christian Academy 17-3 in their last game of the season to clinch the championship. Makayla M. ’20 pitched a two hitter with one earned run and nine strike outs.

The Chargers finished with a 12-1 overall record. The season was marked by strong hitting, with a team batting average of .447. Kathleen C. ’19 led the team, batting .620, followed by Makayla M. ’20 at .610, Meg R. ’20 at .510, Sidney D. ’21 at .510, Leila C. ’21 at .500 and Angela V. ’18 at .490. Emma M. ’19 displayed strong fielding at shortstop, making a number of key plays throughout the season.

The Charger Softball team was a young, small team this season with only 12 players. Every member of the team made significant contributions throughout. Coach Jacquie MacDonald was thrilled with her team’s success this year noting, “We're very proud of the girls- it's exciting to coach a championship team that is still learning. We are young, but talented, and throughout the spring we were eager to learn- and that made for a really fun season. We were also lucky to have some great senior and captain leadership- the older girls helped set the tone for the team, one that encouraged all to only focus on the things we could control, and this really helped us settle as a team. This bodes well for the future of the program, and we hope our seniors know that they were a cornerstone of our championship season and that they will have a part in all of our future successes."

Congratulations, Chargers!
