Maniscalco Named 2021 IGC Volleyball MVP
Congratulations to Layla Maniscalco (‘23) on being named the 2021 Volleyball MVP of the Independent Girls Conference! Layla is a two time IGC all-league selection (‘19 & ‘21) who leads both on and off the court.
From a technical standpoint, Maniscalco’s stats for the 2021 season were off the charts. As an outside hitter, she had a total of 172 attempts attacking, and 110 of those attempts ended with a kill, having only 27 errors.. Her serving was a key part of the Chargers game and at many times brought the team back into the game to take the lead or close out a win. Her ace percentage was exceptionally high at 52.23%. With 247 serving attempts, 129 were aces.
Not only is Maniscalco offensively strong, but her defense is also just as strong putting the Chargers in a strong position from the first touch. Her serve receive was nearly perfect finishing the season with a 75.70% serve receive percentage. Similar to her serve receive, Maniscalco had nearly flawless digging raking up an 89% digging percentage.

Maniscalco helped lead her team to success through her calm demeanor on the court, her wealth of knowledge about the sport, and the quick technical guidance she might offer her team. Maniscalco is reliable, with a positive perspective on every play that translates to her teammates around her.”
Maniscalco is the sole captain of the 2021 Charger team and helped lead the team from a 3-4 start to the season to a 2nd place finish in the IGC. The team is currently ranked 5th in New England and awaiting a bid to the NEPSAC Class D tournament next week.
