Chapel Hill Plays at the St. Johnsbury Academy Invitaitonal
Steven Christenson
Nine Chapel Hill Ultimate players got up very early on Sunday morning to play in a large tournament at St. Johnsbury Academy in northern Vermont. The weather was less than ideal: chilly and plenty of rain. The fields were soaked and mud was abundant. Despite the seemingly adverse conditions, Chapel Hill didn't flinch about getting out onto the fields. Remarkably, the rain and the mud became such an important part of the fun of the day. Every player was constantly slipping and sliding, which led to a certain bonding between teams. Within a few minutes of the start of the first game, the players were soaked and covered with mud. Chapel Hill played three games total. The first against a wonderfully creative, spirited team from the North Country School from New York State. The two teams got along famously and even took a victory lap together at the conclusion of the game. The second game was against Columbia High School and the third against Bridgewater High. The players pushed themselves hard through all three games and returned to Waltham with plenty of stories, more experience, and another adventure under their belts.
