What is your role at CH-CH?
As the Director of Counseling and Wellness I have the pleasure of leading a talented and passionate team of mental health counselors, nurses, and wellness instructors who are committed to helping our community access a healthy school experience across social, emotional, and physical domains. In addition to leading and supporting our core Health and Wellness team, I get to partner with a wide array of community members to plan and implement wellness initiatives and help guide school culture. Perhaps my most important role, though, is providing direct counseling support to our students and families.

What led to your career at CH-CH?
My path to this point in my life has covered a fair amount of ground. I've lived in CA, MA, MS, Italy, New Zealand, and Malaysia. I've been a forklift driver, high school math teacher, in-home adolescent substance abuse counselor, research scuba diver, play therapist, summer camp assistant director, coach, grade level dean, and school counselor. And while I've worked in lumber yards, dive shops, prisons, hospital settings, and group practices, it's been through my work in various high schools that I feel most at home. I landed at CH-CH in 2022 and I'm excited to settle in, share and learn as much as I can, embrace the people and community, and do my part to improve lives, in big ways and small.

What activities do you enjoy outside of CH-CH?
While supporting the social and emotional wellbeing of adolescents brings me immense fulfillment, I recognize that balance is essential in a healthy approach to life. To that end I make sure to prioritize time to run regularly, hike with my dog often, scuba dive occasionally, and travel with my husband as often as we can. We've recently enjoyed spectacular trips to Croatia in '21, Sri Lanka in '22, and both Morocco and Portugal in '23. Experiencing new sights, flavors, shipwrecks, cultures, and adventures is a priority for me, so I intend to keep on diving, exploring, and traveling!

How do you get to know your students best?
I ask a lot of questions and try to truly listen to their answers. I tell them about myself - the vulnerable stuff too - and practice mutual respect.

What makes the CH-CH community unique?
CHCH is welcoming and warm. We value empathy and relationships, which aren't always top priorities in this world.
