On a windy Friday afternoon the Chargers baseball team opened their 2011 campaign with a loss at LCA. Behind a stellar pitching performance from captain Andrew Merlino, the team stayed right with LCA for four innings, trailing by only two runs heading into the second half of the game. Merlino's finest pitching came in the second and third innings, when he retired six batters with only seventeen pitches. Captain Alex Bair led the way at the plate with a soaring RBI double to drive home the team's run. Alex Dolan made an incredible catch in center field, a defensive play rivaled only by Peter Loar and Jack Gelfond's impressive double play earlier in the game. The team played hard from start to finish, and Coach Walch and I were proud of their performance today.
