The Charger Ultimate team traveled west for the second weekend in a row to participate in the NEPSUL tournament at Northfield Mount Hermon. The players were up before 6 am, played their first of 4 games at 9 am and were headed home after 5 pm. Indeed, a full day of competition. For a variety of reasons, only 10 of our 16 active players were able to attend the tournament. Those 10 deserve special recognition. Playing 4 tough games with only 3 subs means that everyone has to push himself beyond what he's been used to. Tylar, Nick D, Sheldon, Grant, Mikael, Neeron, Justin, Matteo, Nicolo, and Ximenes were the traveling team and played with grit, patience, resilience, and spirit. The first game was against CSW, the 4th time the two teams have met. Nick got 2 assists, Justin 2, and Nicolo 1. Points were earned by Tylar (1), Sheldon (3), and Justin (1). Chapel Hill played tight defense on very quick cutting and worked its offense with patience. The final score was 5-10 with CSW on top. The second game was against NMHJV, also the 4th time the two teams have met. The scoring went evenly back and forth. Chapel Hill moved the disc effectively against NMH's zone defense. The game was tied 8-8 with 'next point wins' when Neeron hit Sheldon in the enzone to seal the deal. It was an exciting win for the Chargers. The third game was against Marianapolis, who has improved a lot since the two teams faced each other at Chapel Hill's tournament at the beginning of April. Marianapolis was in control the whole game, but Chapel Hill was able to insert points evenly throughout the game. Nick at 3 assists, Sheldon and Justin 1 each. Sheldon caught 4 points and Mikael 1. The final score was Chapel Hill 5, Marianapolis 11. The sun was beating down hard at the beginning of the 4th game against Vermont Commons. Vermont started with 4 quick points. Chapel Hill answered with two. Vermont handled the disc confidently. Chapel Hill played very tough defense and were able to close the gap to 8-10, Vermont's lead. Chapel Hill pulled the disc and ran downfield like winners, but Vermont got a good look in the enzone and finished the game 11-8. It was a great day of Ultimate and a fine conclusion to a successful season. We celebrated by going out for ice cream before heading back to Waltham.
