Boys Basketball falls short against GANN

Toby Powell
The Varsity Boys played their second league game against Gann Academy at home on Tuesday night. A favorable match-up size wise, the Chargers looked for their first win of the season. The first quarter showed glimpses of what the team can accomplish as they forced turnovers and Deron Alfred was able to get to the free-throw line. While the boys made a good effort to get up the floor and score, turnovers and some defenses lapses let Gann pull away at the break, leading 48-26. A better shooting second half from the backcourt helped keep the Chargers competitive thanks to Nate Cruz (9 points), Nick Granahan (11 points) and Minh Ngo (6 points). Gann still proved too tough, pulling ahead at the final buzzer 80-45. While the score was not what the team wanted, they have seen the type of competition we will face this season and if they can put together a full game of solid play next time the final outcome will be more favorable to the Chargers. The team will look for their first win against CATS Academy on Thursday, 5pm at home.
