In Seoul, Dr. Conrad prepared and presented a CH-CH table for visitors attending a U.S. independent school fair sponsored by The Association of Boarding Schools (TABS). He interviewed and met prospective Korean students and educational consultants, respectively.
Dr. Conrad witnessed the pomp and circumstance of the Changing of the Royal Guard at Gyeongbokgung Palace, the largest of the Five Grand Palaces in Seoul, South Korea. In ancient times, the royal guards of the Joseon Dynasty performed the task of guarding the entrance to the palace where the king ruled the country. Since 1469 the ceremony has taken place and the present reenactment ceremony began in 1996.
Dr. Conrad hosted an elegant CH-CH alumni dinner in Seoul, South Korea for nine former Chargers and one past parent, Young Zu Kim. Ms. Kim’s son, Steven Lee '10, is completing his studies at Cornell University this year. The event was organized by JR Ko ’08, a Vassar College alum.
While Dr. Conrad was in East Asia, Chargie took over his campus desk. Chargie was disappointed that Dr. Conrad missed his third birthday while away.
One of the highlights of Dr. Conrad’s trip was a visit to the former middle school of David Luo ’18, outside Shanghai, China. Here, Dr. Conrad enjoys a Xiwai International School tour from Dr. Lin Min, principal of this 4,000 student PK-12 private school.
CH-CH Trustee Ray Luo P’18 (left) arranged the visit to Xiwai International School and posed for this photo in a Chinese literature classroom with Dr. Conrad and Dr. Lin. Mr. Luo hosted Dr. Conrad in both Shanghai and Beijing during the trip.
Dr. Conrad was dazzled by the extraordinary Shanghai skyline along the Bund and wonderful hospitality of CH-CH Shanghai parents. Enjoying traditional Shanghai food, the five current CH-CH families and one prospective family joined Dr. Conrad on the 28th floor at COSCO’s Neptune Restaurant, complete with rotating floor for constantly changing skylines. Special thanks go to CH-CH trustee Ray Luo P’18 and Xiong Fei Li P’18 for hosting this gathering of the Chinese Parents’ Association.
As the banner proclaims, the Chinese Parents’ Association in Beijing hosted Dr. Conrad for a wonderful “meet and greet meeting” at the famous Quanjude Roast Duck Restaurant. Nine current CH-CH Chinese families, as well as one prospective student and her family, attended the affair on Dr. Conrad’s last night in East Asia. Special thanks go to Li “Kitty” Lu P’17 for organizing and hosting the dinner reception.
