Golf earns tie with Beaver

David Bryant
The Charger golf team had three chances to come away with a win in Firday's match against the Beaver, but as dark gathered on the ninth green, they settled for a hard fought tie. As we have come to expect, senior Max Allen extended his undefeated streak to seven with a 2 and 1 win against the Beaver number one. But the real exciting news was provided by freshman Mark Nathin, who earned the first win of his young career against the Beaver number four with a 2 and 1 victory. He has gained a good deal of confidence this year, and this breakthrough win bodes well for the future of the team. Equally impressive was the match debut of junior rookie DeVonte Austin, who dominated his opponent in a 5 and 4 win. He capped his round by a magnificent second shot on the last hole that settled on the green five feet from the hole. He missed the birdie, but sank the par putt to win in his first match ever, and he started a (very small) undefeated streak of his own. Peter Loar, Brendan Connely, and Jack Knox all lost their matches on the ninth green, but each should feel good about the fact that the win was within reach.  We play again next Wednesday in a rematch with Brimmer at Putterham, when we will have a very good chance to move our record for the season to 2-1-1.

Go Chargers!
