Spring Session is a week of experiential learning that rounds out our academic year. Students are challenged in new ways and have opportunities to shine in new areas. Students leave the classroom behind and become confident travelers, thoughtful writers, artists, and athletes. Spring Session takes learning outside of the classroom, encouraging students to apply their knowledge and to live as lifelong learners.
Previous sessions have covered a wide range of interests and opportunities. There was a civil rights trip to Alabama, an exploration of American Independence and identity in Philadelphia, and a hiking excursion to Yosemite; day-trip sessions around Boston exploring history, culture, nature, and sports; and on-campus sessions combining skill and creativity.
Faculty begin the planning process in September, generating ideas and talking to students about what they’d like to do. We release the catalog in November and hold an info session in December, building excitement and answering students' questions. Session placements are released in February, and then the leaders are busy booking tickets and transportation.
It all culminates in spring session week as our students become explorers, craftspeople, travelers, historians, birdwatchers, boxers, hikers, kayakers, etc. Spring Session is part of what makes CH-CH special.
